Community Library Action Group
The Civic Centre Survey revealed that the council service most used by the people of Dollar is the Library. As the Council are withdrawing from the Civic Centre in September we are exploring the possibility of taking over the Library as a Community Asset.
Following the Trust AGM a small Community Library Action Team has been formed and several meetings about how to best proceed have been held. See our Events Page for details of upcoming meetings
To seek views and gather evidence of demand for the Library to continue the Library Action Team have come up with a short survey. Paper copies are available from the Library, Civic Centre and Paper Shop. Or you can find an online version in ‘Related Links’ below. We are getting some interesting suggestions from the survey which you can find in the links below.
The Library Volunteers Group is hoping to re-open the library as a ‘Community Library’ around the beginning of November. They have been researching other community libraries to decide on the best format for our own. We will be starting small and are considering a “Retro” themed library with proper library cards and stamps! We would love to know what you think of this idea.
To start with the intention is to open on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings as these were the most popular usage times identified by our survey. We still need more volunteers to achieve this.
If you are a passionate library user on just want to ensure we retain a library in Dollar please come along and help us or email you suggestions to us at: firstname.lastname@example.org subject heading ‘Library Action’.
